WHAT DOES AN OSTEOPATH DO?
Osteopaths diagnose and treat abnormalities within the body structure such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, nerves and joints.
By correcting body mechanics (biomechanics), there is significant improvement in the function of the body which results in reduced or complete relief from symptoms such as pain, stiffness and fatigue.
Osteopaths not only treat the symptoms but are also interested in the cause of the symptoms. Once the cause has been identified, an osteopath will give the patient advice in order to help prevent symptoms in the future.
Treatments are done by manual therapy techniques used to ease pain, improve mobility/ flexibility, reduce swelling, improve posture and promote self-healing.
If necessary, an osteopath may need to refer a patient for further investigation such as x-rays, scans or blood tests.
